Fair Trade
Fair Trade is a system of exchange that lessens the degrees of separation between producer and consumer. Basically, it guarantees that the people who grow our coffee, tea, and cocoa are paid a fair price and not exploited in the world market. Our coffee, which comes through a fair trade cooperative called Cooperative Coffees, betters the lives of coffee farmers worldwide by not only paying a higher price, but also developing relationships with the farmers, offering technical support and pre-harvest financing, among other things. In other words, you drink a cup of Roots Coffeehouse coffee with a clear conscience, knowing that your choice to drink fair trade is bettering the lives of coffee farmers all over the world.
Our goal at Roots Coffeehouse is to promote conscious consumerism by encouraging people to think more about where the things they buy come from. We have found that fair trade is a way to help lift the working poor in developing nations out of poverty by giving them a sustainable business model.
